Financial Well-Being:

The Importance of a Long-Term Mental Time Horizon and
How to Achieve It with a Coach

This idea of a mental time horizon for financial well-being is important. It may help explain why so many people struggle to save money, invest, and adequately prepare for the future. If you’re not even thinking about it, why would you save for the future?

Start out gradually. If you tend to think in terms of days, project out to the next 3-6 months. Then continue to extend that time frame. Create a financial plan that looks out over the next 1-3 years. What are your goals for that time period? How much do you want to put into your savings, emergency savings, toward a home, toward your retirement? Once you can manage 1-3 years, extend it out further

Where do you want your savings to be in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years?

This is much easier to do if you work with your financial coach. It’s our job to think long-term and to help you do so as well. With a strong financial plan in place and a coach to help you stick with it, you’ll be well on your way to good financial health.

"If your financial mental horizon is a short one, don’t fret.

Thinking ahead is a habit, and habits take time to build.
